Information

This is an exceptionally rare sideboard, model 29A, designed by Arne Vodder and produced by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s. The piece is executed in highly figured Brazilian rosewood, which displays dramatic grain patterns throughout the front, sides, and top surface. The cabinet is complemented by sliding doors in white and blue formica, creating a striking contrast with the warm, dark tones of the rosewood. The combination of wood and color blocking is a hallmark of Vodder’s work, emphasizing his interest in playful yet functional modern design.

The sideboard is divided into three sections: a sliding door cabinet with adjustable shelves, a bank of drawers with sculpted rosewood pulls revealing blue lacquered interiors, and a hinged bar cabinet with a drop-down door. The long, low profile of the cabinet rests on tapered legs connected by stretchers, providing both stability and a light, elevated appearance. The craftsmanship is typical of Sibast’s production, with attention to detail in joinery, veneering, and interior finishing.

Arne Vodder was one of Denmark’s most influential mid-century designers, known for his elegant and often playful approach to storage furniture. His designs frequently utilized asymmetry, contrasting materials, and distinctive drawer shapes, such as the sculpted pulls seen on this piece. Sibast Møbelfabrik was a leading Danish furniture manufacturer that collaborated with several of Denmark’s most renowned designers, producing high-quality furniture for both domestic and international markets.

This model embodies the essence of mid-century Scandinavian modernism, combining functional storage solutions with a refined aesthetic that remains timeless. The sideboard is in excellent vintage condition, with only minimal signs of age and use, and has been well preserved to maintain the original finish and character of the materials.

Dimensions: width 250 cm (98.4 inches), depth 47 cm (18.5 inches), height 80.5 cm (31.7 inches).
