Arne Vodder sideboard
This is a very rare sideboard, model 29A, designed by Arne Vodder and produced by Sibast Møbler in Denmark during the 1950s. It is constructed in rosewood with lacquered sliding doors in blue and white, combined with a series of drawers featuring sculptural rosewood handles. The piece rests on tapered legs, giving it an elevated and balanced presence typical of the Danish modern movement.
The surface of the rosewood displays a rich grain pattern with deep tonal variations, creating a striking contrast against the smooth lacquered panels. The drawers, arranged vertically, are designed with organically curved handles that highlight Vodder’s attention to detail and his skill in combining functional elements with sculptural expression. The sideboard offers generous storage with sliding doors and a sequence of drawers, emphasizing both practicality and aesthetic refinement.
The condition is excellent, fully restored with only minor signs of use remaining. The restoration work has preserved the integrity of the materials while reviving the vibrancy of the rosewood and lacquer surfaces. The result is a sideboard that retains its original character but is ready for continued use in a contemporary setting.
Arne Vodder (1926–2009) was a Danish architect and designer, closely associated with Finn Juhl and widely recognized as one of the key figures in post-war Scandinavian design. His works often balanced elegance with functionality, using natural materials and refined detailing. Vodder’s collaborations with Sibast resulted in some of his most iconic designs, many of which have become highly sought after internationally. Sibast, as a producer, was known for its dedication to quality craftsmanship and was responsible for manufacturing some of the most important Danish modern furniture of the mid-20th century.
This sideboard is an outstanding example of mid-century Scandinavian design, combining functionality with playful use of color and sophisticated craftsmanship. The proportions of the piece make it suitable for both domestic and representative interiors, with a visual impact enhanced by its large scale.
The dimensions are 250 cm wide, 47 cm deep, and 80.5 cm high (approximately 98.4 x 18.5 x 31.7 inches). These generous measurements emphasize the monumental character of the design while retaining the lightness and elegance associated with Danish modern furniture.
