Bent Karlby ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp was designed by Bent Karlby and produced by Lyfa in Denmark during the 1950s. It features a sculptural tiered design with an opaline glass shade composed of two rounded, stacked forms. The top is accented with a brass fixture, while the lower section includes a vented brass ring that facilitates additional light diffusion.
Bent Karlby was a Danish lighting designer recognized for his elegant, organic approach to modernist lighting. His work with Lyfa often highlighted soft, curved shapes and premium materials, focusing on creating atmospheric illumination. The opaline glass in this lamp ensures a warm, diffused glow, balancing ambient light with minimal glare.
The brass components have developed a natural patina over time, adding depth and authenticity to the piece. The opaline glass remains in good condition, retaining a smooth surface and consistent translucency.
Measuring 25 cm (9.8 inches) in diameter and 42 cm (16.5 inches) in height, the lamp is compact yet visually striking.
