Information

This rare ceiling lamp, model Mosaic, was designed by Bent Karlby and produced by Lyfa in Denmark during the 1960s. The construction features three conical shades arranged linearly and connected by gently curved brass arms. The shades are veneered in rosewood, displaying a warm reddish-brown tone with dark linear grain patterns characteristic of the material and of Karlby’s affinity for natural surfaces. The underside of each cone incorporates a stepped plastic diffuser in a soft off-white color, designed to distribute the light evenly while reducing glare.

The lamp reflects the Scandinavian modernist approach to lighting design, combining geometric forms with natural veneers and functional light control. Bent Karlby’s work for Lyfa is known for its sculptural silhouettes and technical refinement, and the Mosaic model is an example of this interplay between decorative presence and optical engineering. The use of rosewood veneer and brass elements also places the lamp within the high-quality Danish lighting production of the mid-century period.

The style is mid-century Scandinavian, with an emphasis on warm materials and a clear, structured form language. The linear layout of the three cones makes the lamp suited for areas such as dining spaces or elongated surfaces where directed yet diffused illumination is desirable.

The lamp is in good vintage condition with small signs of usage, including minor wear to the veneer and diffusers consistent with age. The brass elements show a light patina.

Dimensions are 57 x 18 x 25 cm, approximately 22.4 x 7.1 x 9.8 inches
