Bertil Brisborg table lamp
This rare table lamp was designed by Bertil Brisborg and produced by Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) in Sweden during the 1940s. The lamp exhibits a refined combination of materials and proportions characteristic of Brisborg’s work for NK, balancing functional clarity with luxurious detailing.
The lamp features a domed, green-lacquered metal shade with a cream-colored interior that softly diffuses the light. The stem is wrapped in brown patinated leather with a spiral seam, adding a tactile and warm contrast to the cool brass fittings and base. The structure rests on a circular brass base with a small integrated switch. Under the shade, a double bulb socket provides ample illumination, while the interior construction reveals meticulous metalwork typical of NK’s high production standards. The underside bears the stamped NK monogram, authenticating its origin.
Bertil Brisborg was one of Sweden’s prominent lighting designers in the mid-20th century, known for his work in architectural and domestic lighting. His designs for Nordiska Kompaniet in the 1930s and 1940s combined modernist sensibility with a distinct Scandinavian craftsmanship ethos. This piece exemplifies his approach—elegant, understated, and built to last.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition with a consistent patina across the brass and visible wear on the lacquered surface, reflecting age and use. The leather wrapping shows natural aging and a rich tone that enhances its authenticity.
