Bondo Gravesen armchairs

This rare set of four armchairs was designed and produced by Bondo Gravesen in Denmark during the 1960s. The chairs are crafted in solid oak and newly reupholstered in a yellow wool fabric, highlighting the sculptural and organic form typical of Scandinavian modern design. The combination of light oak and vibrant upholstery creates a striking yet balanced visual character.

The design is defined by a curved, continuous backrest that extends into the arm supports, seamlessly joined to the vertical frame with precise craftsmanship. The backrest is shaped from a single piece of oak, softly contoured for comfort and visual flow. The circular seat, upholstered in a finely textured yellow wool, adds a vibrant contrast to the natural tone of the oak structure. The legs are subtly tapered, lending the chairs a refined lightness while maintaining structural stability. Each chair retains its original manufacturer’s label from Bondo Gravesen, confirming authenticity and provenance.

Bondo Gravesen (1920–1984) was a Danish architect and designer known for his attention to proportion and craftsmanship. His work often bridges the gap between architectural precision and artisanal tradition, emphasizing the tactile and material qualities of wood. The company that bore his name, based in Copenhagen, was renowned for its small-scale, high-quality furniture production during the height of Danish modernism.

The chairs are in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age. The oak frames display a warm patina, while the newly upholstered seats ensure visual freshness and comfort.
