Information

This pair of easy chairs, model 2226, known as The Spanish Chair, was designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by Fredericia Stolefabrik in Denmark during the 1950s. Crafted from solid oak with a warm, natural finish, the chairs are complemented by the original cognac brown saddle leather, which has developed a rich patina over time. The design is defined by wide armrests, a sturdy frame, and adjustable leather seat and backrest panels secured with brass buckles.

The Spanish Chair draws inspiration from traditional Andalusian furniture and reflects Mogensen’s dedication to robust, functional design. The widened armrests eliminate the need for side tables, embodying Mogensen’s philosophy of practical and enduring furniture. Exposed joinery and the use of solid materials highlight Danish craftsmanship, while the thick leather and oak frame ensure both durability and comfort.

Børge Mogensen was a central figure in Danish modern design, renowned for his emphasis on simplicity, functionality, and the use of high-quality materials. Fredericia Stolefabrik played a vital role in producing Mogensen’s iconic pieces, upholding a commitment to fine craftsmanship and lasting construction.

These chairs remain in very good original condition, showing natural wear to the leather consistent with their age. The solid oak structure and well-preserved upholstery exemplify Scandinavian mid-century design at its finest.

The dimensions of each chair are approximately 82 cm in width, 60 cm in depth, 67 cm in height, with a seat height of 33 cm (32.3 x 23.6 x 26.4 inches, seat height 13 inches).
