Boris Lacroix table lamp
This rare table or wall lamp, designed by Boris Lacroix and produced by Falkenbergs Belysning in Sweden during the 1950s, is a striking example of mid-century Scandinavian design, combining both sculptural and functional qualities emblematic of the era.
The lamp features a conical shade in lacquered metal, finished in a soft beige hue, and is pierced with a decorative band of star-shaped perforations around the lower edge. This design detail allows light to escape both downward and laterally, creating an ambient glow while adding a decorative effect. The shade shows age-consistent patina and some surface wear, a reflection of its original vintage condition.
The articulating arm is made of solid brass and supported by a tripod-like base, which mimics bamboo segments—an organic design motif commonly found in Lacroix’s work. The structure allows for adjustable positioning of the shade, both in height and angle, and includes a brass ring for wall suspension, making the lamp adaptable for use as either a table or wall fixture.
The wiring is external, and the lamp includes a vintage inline switch, which is in line with the piece’s original configuration. The brass has developed oxidation and patina, consistent with its age and use, further enhancing its vintage character.
The dimensions of the lamp are 12 cm in width, 32 cm in depth, and 24 cm in height, which corresponds to approximately 4.7 inches wide, 12.6 inches deep, and 9.4 inches high. This lamp is a versatile and elegant example of mid-century Scandinavian design, offering both beauty and functionality.
