Information

This rare and large hanging candelabra, produced in Sweden during the 1960s, is crafted from solid brass and features a design closely associated with Hans-Agne Jakobsson, though no firm attribution has been confirmed. The candelabra consists of a symmetrical arrangement of two intersecting horizontal brass bars, each supporting five cylindrical candleholders, resulting in a total of ten sockets arranged in an evenly spaced grid.

The overall construction is minimal and architectural, with all elements rendered in brass and finished with a hand-applied patina. The brass shows moderate oxidation and surface wear, which is consistent with age, lending the piece a warm golden tone interspersed with darker areas and signs of verdigris, particularly on the inside of the candleholders. The vertical stem is made from a flat rectangular bar, with a sculptural upper bend that terminates in a hook-like form, emphasizing both its functional suspension and the material continuity of the design.

Although the piece is unsigned, its clean geometric proportions, restrained ornamentation, and material palette strongly resemble the lighting pieces designed by Jakobsson during the late 1950s and 1960s. Hans-Agne Jakobsson was known for his prolific output in lighting design, especially through his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB. His work, which included chandeliers, pendants, and candle fixtures, balanced traditional craftsmanship with modernist forms.

The candelabra measures 78 cm in width, 4 cm in depth, and 138 cm in height, equivalent to approximately 30.7 x 1.6 x 54.3 inches. It retains excellent structural integrity, with the patina preserved and all elements in their original condition.
