Candelabra

Information

This rare wrought iron hanging candelabra was produced in Sweden during the 1950s by an unknown designer. It exemplifies Scandinavian craftsmanship through its sculptural form, blending utility with artistic expression using traditional hand-forging techniques.

The chandelier’s design features a symmetrical, tree-like structure centered around a vertical rod from which curved, branch-like arms extend in three tiers. Each tier holds upward-facing candle holders, accommodating a total of six lights. The visible hammer marks on the metal surface reflect its hand-forged origins and add a raw, tactile quality to the piece. Over time, the metal has developed a dark, naturally aged patina with subtle oxidation consistent with its vintage character.

Its shape and details suggest influences from Gothic revival and rustic modernist traditions, marked by elongated forms, ornamental hooks, and an emphasis on verticality and linear rhythm. Although unmarked, the chandelier aligns with Scandinavian blacksmith-artisan aesthetics typical of smaller ironworks and workshops producing ecclesiastical or rustic lighting in the postwar era.

The piece remains in good vintage condition, showing minor wear and oxidation appropriate for its age.

The dimensions are 31 cm in diameter and 100 cm in height, approximately 12.2 inches wide and 39.4 inches high.
