Ceiling lamps
This rare pair of large ceiling lamps, likely produced in Germany during the 1960s, showcases a refined example of mid-century modernist lighting design. Each lamp features a central vertical column crafted from black lacquered metal, from which four symmetrically arranged arms extend outward, each supporting a cylindrical opaline glass shade. The opaline glass shades have a matte, softly diffused surface that provides gentle and uniform illumination, complementing the stark, architectural clarity of the black metal framework.
The lamps embody the era’s characteristic focus on geometric reduction and functional form, balancing industrial materials with sculptural presence. While the designer is unknown, the aesthetic and construction echo the work of prominent German and Austrian lighting manufacturers of the post-war period, such as Kaiser Leuchten and Temde, who were known for producing elegant, minimalist lighting fixtures.
Both lamps are in very good vintage condition, with minor age-related wear visible on the metal and glass surfaces. The opaline glass shades show some superficial signs of use but maintain their ability to diffuse light effectively. The black lacquer on the metal frame remains largely intact, with only slight patina consistent with age.
Each lamp measures 25 cm in diameter and 155 cm in height (approximately 9.8 inches by 61 inches), making them striking vertical elements suitable for spaces requiring both illumination and architectural interest.
