Chair
A side chair or office chair produced in Denmark during the 1940s, executed in solid oak with upholstered seat and back in dark brown leather. The design reflects the restrained elegance of early Scandinavian modernism, where traditional craftsmanship meets subtle sculptural refinement.
The frame is constructed in oak with a warm, honey-toned finish that highlights the natural grain. The rear legs are gently sabre-shaped, creating a slight backward sweep that gives the chair a poised and balanced stance, while the front legs remain straight and understated. The backrest is supported by two vertical uprights, lending a light and open structure.
Both seat and back are upholstered in dark brown leather, richly patinated with age. The leather has developed a soft sheen and visible tonal variation, with natural creasing and wear that emphasize its character and authenticity. The upholstery is secured with a continuous row of brass rivets, adding a decorative rhythm along the edges and reinforcing the handcrafted quality of the piece.
The seat has a slightly concave form for comfort, while the backrest is gently curved to support the sitter. The proportions are compact yet comfortable, making the chair suitable for use as a desk chair or occasional seating.
The chair measures approximately 55 cm in width, 52 cm in depth, and 82.5 cm in height, with a seat height of 45 cm, corresponding to 21.7 x 20.5 x 32.5 inches and a seat height of 17.7 inches. It remains in good vintage condition with signs of usage, including wear to the leather and minor marks to the wood, contributing to a well-preserved and attractive patina.
