Sam Larsson office chair

This rare office chair, model Sam, was designed by Sam Larsson and produced by Dux in Sweden in 1974. The chair is constructed from chromed tubular steel combined with original black leather upholstery, reflecting the restrained elegance and technical precision characteristic of Scandinavian modernism of the 1970s.

The design features a curved seat and backrest with deep button tufting, which create both visual rhythm and ergonomic support. The backrest is connected to the seat by a distinctive tan leather strap at the rear, a functional detail that adds contrast and warmth to the polished chrome and black leather combination. The armrests are padded and upholstered in matching leather, enhancing comfort and continuity of material. The five-star chromed steel base is fitted with casters for mobility and includes a height-adjustment mechanism, making the chair suitable for both executive and design office environments.

Sam Larsson (1930–1998) was a Swedish designer known for his refined furniture and interior designs for Dux and other leading Scandinavian manufacturers. His work is characterized by its synthesis of craftsmanship and industrial methods, often using tubular steel and leather to create pieces that were both durable and expressive. Larsson’s designs reflect the pragmatic sophistication that defined Swedish design in the 1960s and 1970s.

The chair remains in good condition with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The leather shows light creasing and patina, contributing to the chair’s authenticity and character.
