Information

This rare easy chair was produced in Denmark during the 1960s and represents a mid-century Scandinavian approach to modern comfort and craftsmanship. The frame is constructed from solid pine, with distinctive grain patterns that have been preserved and highlighted through a warm-toned finish. The pine surfaces are smoothly rounded at the corners and edges, softening the rectilinear form and enhancing the tactile presence of the piece. The visible dovetail and corner joints reveal high levels of craftsmanship and attention to detail, with each board carefully joined for both durability and visual continuity.

The seating consists of generously proportioned cushions upholstered in the original dark charcoal-grey wool fabric. The cushions are thick and firmly structured, with lightly button-tufted surfaces that retain the architectural rigor of the piece while contributing to its seated comfort. The upholstered sections are inset within the surrounding pine structure, creating a recessed effect that emphasizes the contrast between hard and soft materials, and between structural clarity and tactile invitation.

Although the designer is unknown, the formal language of the chair aligns with mid-century modular and low-profile lounge seating by Scandinavian designers such as Børge Mogensen and Illum Wikkelsø. The simplicity and robustness of the construction, combined with an emphasis on honest materials and clear form, is characteristic of Danish modernism during this period.

The chair is in good vintage condition, showing expected signs of use and patina. There are minor wear marks on the fabric and wood, and some darkening to the pine where handled or exposed to light, consistent with decades of practical use. The chair retains full structural integrity and remains suitable for regular use.

The dimensions are 86.5 centimeters in width, 87 centimeters in depth, and 64 centimeters in height, with a seat height of 35 centimeters. These measurements correspond approximately to 34 inches wide, 34.3 inches deep, and 25.2 inches high, with a seat height of 13.8 inches. This easy chair is part of a matching set that includes a corresponding sofa, both offering a visually cohesive and material-rich furnishing solution suitable for interiors grounded in mid-century Scandinavian aesthetics.
