Percival Lafer easy chair

Rare easy chair with matching stool designed by Percival Lafer and produced by Lafer MP, Brazil, during the 1960s. The model is a characteristic example of Brazilian modern design, where generous comfort is combined with visible construction and richly expressive materials.

The chair is built around a solid hardwood frame with a warm, dark tone and softly rounded edges. The construction is clearly articulated, with exposed bolts and horizontal stretchers emphasizing the structural logic. The suspended seat and back cushions are supported by wide leather straps wrapped around the rear rail, a signature element in many of Lafer’s designs. This system allows the upholstery to hang naturally within the frame, creating a relaxed and inviting silhouette.

The cushions are upholstered in thick, mustard-toned leather with deep button tufting arranged in a geometric pattern. Over time, the leather has developed a pronounced patina with visible creasing, color variation, and surface wear, giving the piece a strong vintage character. The broad armrests are softly padded and rest on substantial wooden supports, reinforcing the low, lounge-oriented proportions. The matching stool mirrors the construction of the chair, with a tufted leather cushion set within a solid wooden frame.

The design reflects the Brazilian interpretation of mid-century modernism, where comfort, tactility, and craftsmanship take precedence over strict minimalism. The combination of solid wood, saddle leather, and generous cushioning results in a piece that is both sculptural and highly functional.

The chair measures 90 cm in width, 90 cm in depth, and 66 cm in height (35.4 x 35.4 x 26 inches), with a seat height of 35 cm (13.8 inches). The stool measures 68 cm in width, 55 cm in depth, and 45 cm in height (26.8 x 21.7 x 17.7 inches).

The set remains in ok vintage condition with heavy signs of usage and a strong patina to the leather. The wear is consistent with age and use and contributes to the authentic character of the piece. The structure is stable and fully functional.
