Flemming Stoltze dining table
This unique dining table was designed and crafted by Danish cabinetmaker Flemming Stoltze in the 1930s. It features a round top made from rosewood, showcasing a book-matched veneer pattern that highlights the wood’s natural grain and depth. The tabletop rests on tapered legs with ebony-capped feet, combining elegant proportions with durable materials. The construction is reinforced with solid maple elements and brass fittings, which enable a smooth and precise extension mechanism.
The table includes five extension leaves, each measuring 59.5 cm, allowing it to expand from a compact circular form measuring 120 cm in diameter to an elongated shape reaching a total length of 420 cm. This adaptability makes the table suitable for intimate dinners as well as large gatherings, reflecting functional versatility alongside refined craftsmanship.
Flemming Stoltze was a master cabinetmaker renowned for his meticulous woodworking and attention to detail. His work embodies Scandinavian modernist ideals, where quality materials, skilled craftsmanship, and practical design converge. The use of rosewood and ebony emphasizes natural beauty, while the brass fittings demonstrate precise engineering.
The table is in good vintage condition, with a well-preserved surface showing minimal wear consistent with its age. The extension mechanism functions smoothly, and the overall structural integrity remains intact.
Dimensions are 120 cm in width and depth, with a height of 75 cm (47.2 x 47.2 x 29.5 inches). When fully extended with all five leaves, the table measures 420 cm (165.4 inches) in length, making it a highly versatile and elegant piece for various interior settings.
