Gertrud Lönegren table lamp

A rare Model Florens table lamp designed by Gertrud Lönegren and produced by Rörstrand in Sweden during the 1940s. Sculptural yet understated, the lamp exemplifies the refined Scandinavian aesthetic that emerged in the post-war period, combining handcrafted ceramics with timeless functional design.

The lamp features a beautifully proportioned ovoid ceramic base with deeply ribbed decoration that wraps around its entire surface, creating a striking interplay of light and shadow. Finished in a warm cream glaze with rich brown accentuating the relief, the handcrafted texture highlights the exceptional quality of Rörstrand’s stoneware production. The ceramic body is complemented by an elegant brass fitting and paired with a classic white pleated Le Klint lampshade, whose crisp geometry beautifully contrasts the organic form of the base while diffusing a warm, atmospheric light.

Gertrud Lönegren (1905–1985) was one of Rörstrand’s most celebrated designers, renowned for her sculptural stoneware and decorative objects inspired by nature and Swedish craft traditions. Her work is distinguished by its tactile surfaces, harmonious proportions, and enduring modernity, making her designs highly sought after by collectors of Scandinavian ceramics.

The underside bears the printed Rörstrand Sweden mark together with the model name Florens, the decorator’s mark, and the designation Handdrejat (hand-thrown), confirming its authentic production.

The lamp measures 38 cm in diameter and 43 cm in height (approximately 15 × 17 inches, including the shade).

It remains in good vintage condition, with only minor signs of age and use consistent with its vintage character. The ceramic is beautifully preserved, and the lamp has been fitted with a high-quality Le Klint pleated shade, making it ready for use while remaining faithful to its Scandinavian design heritage. A rare and highly decorative example of Gertrud Lönegren’s ceramic artistry for Rörstrand.
