Fritz Hansen easy chair
Rare large easy chair model 1672, produced by Fritz Hansen in Denmark during the 1930s. This generous lounge chair represents an early example of Danish functionalist design, emphasizing comfort and craftsmanship through organic form and tactile materials.
The chair features a sculptural, high-back silhouette with pronounced wings and curved armrests that envelop the sitter. It is newly reupholstered in natural sheepskin with leather-covered buttons, giving the surface a soft, luxurious texture and subtle tonal contrast. The solid oak legs ground the design, adding warmth and visual balance to the voluminous upholstered body.
Fritz Hansen, established in 1872, was among Denmark’s leading furniture manufacturers, collaborating with the most prominent designers of the 20th century. This model reflects the firm’s early transition from traditional upholstery to the modern Scandinavian aesthetic that later defined its production.
The piece remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of use consistent with age. The sheepskin upholstery is newly executed with careful attention to detail, preserving the original proportions and character of the design.
