Information

This is a large candlestick designed by Gunnar Ander and produced by Ystad Metall in Sweden during the 1950s. The piece is constructed from brass and black lacquered metal, a combination that reflects the elegant contrast and refined simplicity typical of Scandinavian mid-century design. The composition is both sculptural and functional, with the arms arranged symmetrically to hold six candles. Each brass cup is shaped with a gentle flare and subtle vertical ridges, enhancing the reflection of light while adding a refined decorative detail.

Gunnar Ander (1908–1976) was a Swedish designer and architect known for his collaborations with Ystad Metall, where he produced a wide range of lighting and decorative objects. His designs often merged functionality with graceful forms, balancing traditional craftsmanship with modernist influences. Ystad Metall, founded in the early 19th century, became one of Sweden’s leading producers of decorative metalwork, particularly recognized for its high-quality brass pieces and collaborations with notable designers.

This candlestick exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian aesthetics, where restrained lines, practical function, and material quality harmonize. The interplay of black lacquered metal and polished brass gives it both presence and warmth, suitable for both everyday use and as a display object.

The candlestick is in excellent vintage condition with only small signs of usage, consistent with age.
Dimensions are 45 cm in width, 9 cm in depth, and 41 cm in height (approximately 17.7 x 3.5 x 16.1 inches).
