Information

This is a rare and refined pair of bedside or side tables designed by Swedish furniture designer Halvdan Pettersson and produced by Tibro Möbelfabrik in Sweden during the 1950s. The design is distinctly mid-century Scandinavian, combining elegant proportions with rich material contrasts and subtle decorative detailing.

Each piece is constructed with a circular mahogany top exhibiting a deep reddish-brown tone and fine grain. The top surface is framed with a thin brass gallery rail, giving the tables a refined, almost neoclassical touch. The bodies of the tables are clad in white artificial leather, bordered with a double row of brass nailhead trim that adds rhythm and visual structure to the cylindrical form. Two drawers are inset into the front, each fitted with original brass drop handles.

The tables stand on four tapered solid mahogany legs, with the feet finished in brass sabots. The warm wood tones of the legs and top harmonize with the lighter body, and the use of metal accents introduces a sophisticated contrast. The overall form is rounded and compact, yet highly structured, allowing these tables to function equally well as nightstands or occasional tables.

This design reflects Halvdan Pettersson’s characteristic blend of neoclassical influences with the restrained modernism typical of Swedish mid-century interiors. Pettersson, active during the mid-20th century, was known for his collaborations with leading Swedish furniture manufacturers including Tibro Möbelfabrik, a company recognized for its high standards of craftsmanship and production quality.

The pair is in good vintage condition, showing signs of age and patina consistent with careful use. The artificial leather shows some expected surface wear and tonal variation. Brass elements exhibit a warm, aged finish, and the wooden surfaces display minor marks and a well-preserved finish.

Each table measures 37.5 cm wide by 38 cm deep, with a height of 55.5 cm. In inches, the dimensions are approximately 14.8 inches wide by 15 inches deep by 21.9 inches high.
