Halvdan Pettersson bedside tables
Each table features a compact cylindrical body with two curved drawers, supported by four slender, tapered beech legs with brass-capped feet. The circular mahogany tops display a warm reddish-brown tone and a distinctive natural grain, complemented by a gently curved brass gallery along the rear edge.
The drawer fronts are upholstered in cream-colored imitation leather and framed by evenly spaced dark decorative studs, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding wood. Small geometric brass drop handles introduce an additional decorative detail while maintaining the tables’ balanced proportions. The curved drawers open to reveal wooden interiors, demonstrating the thoughtful construction behind the unusual circular design.
The combination of contrasting materials and carefully considered details gives the tables a distinctive character. The soft cream upholstery, warm mahogany surfaces, and aged brass fittings create a harmonious composition, while the elevated cylindrical forms lend the pieces a light and elegant appearance.
Designed to stand freely, the tables are finished with smooth upholstered sides and can be appreciated from multiple angles. Their compact proportions make them suitable as bedside tables or occasional side tables.
The pair is in good vintage condition, with minor signs of age and use consistent with their period.
Produced in Sweden during the 1950s, these bedside tables represent an unusual interpretation of Scandinavian modern furniture, combining functional storage with expressive materials, decorative detailing, and a sculptural silhouette.
