Hans-Agne Jakobsson attrib. ceiling lamps
This pair of ceiling lamps is attributed to Hans-Agne Jakobsson and was produced in Sweden during the mid-20th century. They are an excellent representation of Scandinavian mid-century design, combining modernist simplicity with sculptural expressiveness.
The lamps are composed of a brass framework and white acrylic shades. The structure features multiple arms radiating from a central core, each supporting a cylindrical or globular acrylic diffuser. The brass is finished with a soft satin sheen, offering a warm golden tone that contrasts subtly with the opaque white acrylic shades.
The color palette includes the muted gold of the brass and the soft, milky white of the acrylic, ensuring that the lamps emit a warm, diffused light when illuminated. The arrangement of the shades creates a harmonious rhythm, enhancing the sculptural appearance and distributing light evenly across the space.
The condition is good vintage, with minor signs of usage visible on both the brass surfaces and the acrylic shades. These slight imperfections are consistent with the age of the pieces and do not detract from their overall visual impact.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a prominent Swedish designer renowned for his atmospheric lighting designs. His work often emphasized diffused and indirect lighting, aiming to create soft, warm ambiences rather than direct illumination. Jakobsson’s designs are celebrated for their sculptural quality, attention to materials, and refined simplicity, making his creations highly desirable within the sphere of mid-century Scandinavian design.
Each lamp measures 81 cm in diameter (approximately 31.9 inches) and 97 cm in height (approximately 38.2 inches).
