Information

This is a rare floor lamp, model G-110, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The lamp features a slender cylindrical shaft and a circular base executed in brass, supporting a horizontally oriented circular shade composed of layered silk fringe. The fringe is arranged in concentric tiers, producing a softly diffused glow when lit. The brass has acquired a natural patina over time, contributing to the piece’s authentic vintage character.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson was a Swedish interior and industrial designer known for his atmospheric lighting designs. Drawing on principles of Scandinavian modernism, his work emphasized soft, indirect illumination, often achieved through use of fringe, perforated metal, and organic materials. Jakobsson began his career as a cabinetmaker before working under Carl Malmsten and later Gunnar Asplund. In 1951, he established his own company in Markaryd, which went on to become internationally recognized for producing distinctive lighting fixtures during the mid-20th century.

This lamp embodies Jakobsson’s philosophy of diffused and decorative lighting, exemplifying Scandinavian mid-century design’s tendency toward both function and ambience. The model G-110, while lesser known than some of his pendant or wall-mounted creations, reflects his dedication to crafting light with warmth and softness.

The lamp remains in good vintage condition with signs of usage, most notably some wear and aging to the brass components, which present a consistent and appealing patinated surface. The silk shade remains intact and visually expressive, producing a rich play of shadow and texture when illuminated.

Dimensions are 140 cm in height and 39 cm in diameter, equivalent to approximately 55.1 inches high and 15.4 inches in diameter.
