Information

This is a table lamp, model BN-26, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his firm Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp is constructed from aluminum with a brass coating, lending it a warm metallic appearance while maintaining a lightweight structure.

The design features a sculptural and tiered shade composed of four horizontally stacked, circular louvers. These overlapping discs serve to diffuse and direct the light downward and outward, eliminating glare and producing a gentle ambient illumination. The shade rests on a flared trumpet-shaped base that gives the lamp an elegant silhouette, balancing mid-century functionalism with a futuristic aesthetic.

The brass coating is softly satin-finished, enhancing the form’s curves and contributing to the lamp’s atmospheric character. When illuminated, the layered shade glows subtly between the bands, accentuating Jakobsson’s design philosophy of light as a material component rather than merely a source.

Condition is good vintage, with minor signs of wear including light surface marks and gentle patination to the brass finish, consistent with careful use and age. The original label reading “Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB Markaryd Sweden BN-26” is still affixed to the underside of the lamp, confirming its authenticity.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a leading Swedish lighting designer noted for his mastery of mood lighting and his experiments with shadow and diffusion. While many of his pieces utilized natural materials like wood or fabric, BN-26 reflects his modernist engagement with metalwork and industrial production. The form is reminiscent of contemporaneous Scandinavian explorations into futuristic and architectural lighting design.

The dimensions are 33 cm in diameter and 45 cm in height, equivalent to approximately 13 inches in diameter and 17.7 inches in height.
