Information

Rare table lamp model B-99 designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The lamp is executed entirely in polished copper and exhibits a cylindrical body composed of a series of evenly spaced horizontal discs stacked vertically around a central column. These disc-shaped shades act as diffusers, creating a warm, filtered light when the lamp is illuminated. The top is crowned with a circular loop handle, which is both functional and ornamental, and is affixed to a gently domed lid.

The lamp is finished in a rich reddish-gold hue characteristic of patinated copper, displaying slight tonal variations due to age, but remaining in excellent overall condition with no significant damage or corrosion. The surface shows only minimal wear consistent with careful use and age, and retains a uniform luster throughout. The lighting effect produced is atmospheric, with a warm radial glow that diffuses laterally through the gaps between the copper discs.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a renowned Swedish lighting designer and interior architect known for his work with natural materials and indirect light. Trained initially as a cabinetmaker and later as an architect, Jakobsson’s design language emphasized soft illumination and sculptural forms. He founded his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd in the 1950s, which became internationally recognized for its innovative lighting objects. His work often merges architectural rigor with a distinctly Scandinavian sensitivity to light and atmosphere.

The piece is stamped on the underside with “H.A.J. Markaryd B 99” confirming its authenticity and production origin. It measures 51 cm in height and 20 cm in diameter, which corresponds to approximately 20.1 inches high and 7.9 inches in diameter.
