Information

This is a rare table lamp, model B-54, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp exhibits a distinctly Scandinavian mid-century aesthetic, combining natural materials and geometric precision.

The lamp features a conical white lacquered metal shade, which is supported by a slender teak arm with integrated cable routing, contributing both visual clarity and functional elegance. The teak arm is joined to a circular base made of patinated brass and painted metal, with visible wear consistent with age and use. The articulation is secured with brass hardware, allowing the shade angle to be adjusted. The combination of metal, wood, and brass speaks to Jakobsson’s sensitivity to texture and form, as well as his experimentation with indirect lighting principles.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a prominent Swedish lighting designer known for his poetic and atmospheric designs. Trained as an architect and originally working with Carl Malmsten, Jakobsson began producing lighting under his own brand in 1951. He favored soft, indirect light and often used natural materials such as wood and brass to create harmonious forms. His work contributed significantly to the development of mid-century Swedish lighting, combining modernist ideals with Nordic material traditions.

Jakobsson AB in Markaryd became a central production site for his designs, reflecting postwar Scandinavian ideals of craftsmanship, simplicity, and domestic warmth. Model B-54 exemplifies Jakobsson’s philosophy through its refined use of form and material to control light softly and directionally, making it well-suited for focused task lighting while remaining sculptural in presence.

The condition is good with visible signs of use, particularly patina and minor wear on the brass and painted surfaces, consistent with the lamp’s age.

Dimensions are approximately 60 cm high, 60 cm deep, and 20 cm wide, which corresponds to 23.6 inches in height, 23.6 inches in depth, and 7.9 inches in width.
