Hans-Agne Jakobsson table lamp
This table lamp is the rare model B-204/31 designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden. The lamp is crafted entirely in brass and features a dome-shaped shade, which gives it a sculptural and architectural character. The base flares outward in a trumpet-like form, supporting a cylindrical stem that carries the hemispherical shade. This construction creates a balanced and harmonious composition, typical of Jakobsson’s mid-century lighting designs.
The lamp surface shows small signs of use and patina, especially on the brass stem and base, which is consistent with its age and enhances its authentic vintage character. The shade retains its reflective polished surface, designed to softly diffuse the light downward while shielding glare. When lit, the lamp produces a warm and atmospheric light, characteristic of Jakobsson’s designs that often emphasized mood and ambience.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was one of Sweden’s most prolific lighting designers of the mid-20th century. Trained as a carpenter and later working with Carl Malmsten, he eventually established his own company in Markaryd in 1951. His work is distinguished by its sensitivity to light diffusion and atmosphere, often using materials such as brass, glass, and wood to create lamps that balanced functional lighting with a poetic quality. Jakobsson’s lamps gained international recognition and remain highly collectible for their craftsmanship and timeless design.
