Information

This rare pair of table lamps, model B-140, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. The lamps are executed in polished brass with cylindrical silk fringe shades, characteristic of Jakobsson’s delicate treatment of light and texture. Each lamp stands on a circular weighted brass base from which a slender stem rises, bending at a right angle to support the shade. The brass surface has a warm golden tone that complements the pale yellow silk fringes, which softly diffuse the light to create a gentle, atmospheric glow.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was one of Sweden’s most prolific lighting designers, renowned for his ability to translate functional modernism into warm and expressive forms. His works often combined industrial materials such as brass and glass with organic elements like fabric or wood, resulting in lighting that balanced sculptural clarity with tactile softness. The B-140 model exemplifies this approach through its minimal geometric construction and the decorative yet understated presence of the fringed shade, which creates a subtle interplay of shadow and movement when illuminated.

Produced in Markaryd, Jakobsson’s workshop became synonymous with high-quality Swedish lighting design throughout the mid-20th century. The B-140 model was part of a series of table and floor lamps made in limited quantities, distinguished by their refined proportions and signature use of fringe.

The lamps are in excellent condition with very small signs of age and a light, even patina to the brass. The silk shades are original and well-preserved, maintaining their natural luster.

Dimensions: 20 cm wide, 26 cm deep, and 61 cm high (approximately 7.9 x 10.2 x 24 inches).
