Information

This pair of easy chairs, model GE-240, also known as “Cigar” was designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Getama in Denmark during the 1950s. The design is a quintessential example of Scandinavian mid-century modern furniture, combining organic materials, functional comfort, and elegant craftsmanship.

Constructed from solid oak, the frames display Wegner’s signature sculptural approach. The broad, paddle-shaped armrests give the model its nickname “Cigar,” while the slightly angled rear legs support a gently reclined backrest designed for optimal seating comfort. Horizontal slats across the backrest provide structural support and contribute to the chairs’ open, lightweight appearance.

The original upholstery features a striped green fabric that harmonizes with the warm tones of the oak frame. The generously sized cushions ensure comfortable seating while maintaining the clean, minimalistic aesthetic characteristic of Wegner’s work.

Hans J. Wegner, one of Denmark’s most influential 20th-century designers, was celebrated for his mastery of wood and his ability to merge structural integrity with timeless elegance. His collaboration with Getama produced some of his most iconic lounge chairs, including the GE-240.

Getama was a respected Danish furniture manufacturer known for high-quality seating production. Their partnership with Wegner resulted in several classic designs that remain highly regarded for their craftsmanship and innovation.

Each chair measures approximately 68 centimeters in width, 80 centimeters in depth, and 74 centimeters in height (26.8 x 31.5 x 29.1 inches), with a seat height of 39 centimeters (15.4 inches). The chairs are in good vintage condition, retaining a well-preserved oak patina and original fabric upholstery showing minor wear consistent with age.
