Hans Wegner lounge chair
This very rare lounge chair, model GE-2 or Hammock Chair, was designed by Hans Wegner and produced by Getama in Denmark during the 1960s. The chair features a solid oak frame sculpted into smooth, organic curves that cradle the sitter in a relaxed recline. The seat and backrest are made from handwoven flagline, a natural fiber that forms a flexible, hammock-like surface, combining comfort with structural support. A soft sheepskin cover accompanies the chair, adding warmth and tactile luxury.
Hans Wegner is celebrated for his blend of craftsmanship and modernist design, focusing on organic shapes and functional elegance. The Hammock Chair embodies his philosophy by balancing sturdy construction with a lightweight, airy form that encourages natural movement.
Getama, renowned for its precision woodworking and collaboration with Wegner, ensured high-quality production standards. This chair is in good vintage condition with expected signs of use, including minor repairs to the flagline. It measures 180 cm in width, 75 cm in depth, and 70 cm in height (70.9 x 29.5 x 27.6 inches), with a seat height of 30 cm (11.8 inches).
