Information

This height-adjustable ceiling lamp is model number 15302, designed by Harald Notini and produced by Böhlmarks in Sweden during the 1940s. The piece exemplifies Scandinavian mid-century modernism, combining technical functionality with a refined material presence. Made entirely of brass, it integrates both mechanical innovation and visual precision, characteristic of Notini’s approach to lighting design.

The lamp consists of three conical brass shades, each terminating in a precise, rhythmically perforated lower rim. These slotted openings allow for an additional decorative diffusion of light when the fixture is illuminated. The shades are arranged in a triangular composition and suspended from a central hub by gently arched brass arms, which contribute to the symmetrical structure and sculptural integrity of the design. Above the fixture, an original counterweight and pulley mechanism allow the user to adjust the height, reflecting the postwar Scandinavian emphasis on adaptive and user-centered lighting.

The brass exhibits a well-preserved patina with surface wear consistent with age, including minor scuffs and oxidized areas that lend authenticity to the lamp’s vintage character. The underside of the shades glows warmly when lit, and the perforations create an ambient halo of light punctuated by precise lines.

Harald Notini (1879–1959) was a Swedish designer, silversmith, and lighting specialist closely associated with Böhlmarks, where he served as artistic director. His work bridges the transition from Swedish Grace to mid-century functionalism, often balancing decorative detail with the rationalism of industrial design. Notini’s lamps are noted for their technical craftsmanship and restrained elegance, and model 15302 is a rare and exemplary expression of this synthesis.

Böhlmarks, founded in Stockholm in the 1870s, became a major Swedish lighting manufacturer throughout the 20th century. During Notini’s tenure, the company produced some of the most refined Scandinavian lighting designs of the era, combining traditional metalworking skills with a forward-looking design ethos.

The lamp is in good vintage condition and retains its full functionality. The model is particularly rare and sought-after, and the adjustable height system remains intact and operational.

The dimensions are 44 cm in diameter and an adjustable height from 94 to 145 cm, which corresponds approximately to 17.3 inches in diameter and a height ranging from 37 to 57 inches.
