Information

This very rare floor lamp was designed by Harald Notini and produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp features a refined vertical construction made primarily of brass, with a central shaft wrapped in natural leather, coiled in a continuous spiral pattern to provide both grip and visual texture. The base is a flat, circular disc of polished brass with a soft, aged patina, contributing to the overall weight and stability of the piece. The upper structure includes a cylindrical brass stem supporting a two-part shade assembly: the inner diffuser is made of white molded plastic, and the outer shade is crafted from stitched tan leather in a tapered cylindrical form, creating a warmly diffused illumination when lit.

Harald Notini (1909–1990) was a prominent Swedish lighting and furniture designer known for his role in shaping Swedish functionalist design in the mid-20th century. He frequently worked with premium materials such as brass, glass, and leather, integrating artisanal craftsmanship with modernist restraint. Notini’s collaborations with Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik produced several highly collectible lighting objects that embodied both decorative refinement and technical precision.

Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik, active from the late 19th century through the 20th century, was one of Sweden’s foremost lighting manufacturers, noted for their high-quality production standards and design collaborations. In the post-war period, the factory embraced modernist design while maintaining a dedication to fine materials and construction techniques.

The dimensions are 177 cm in height and 46 cm in diameter. In inches, this equates approximately to 69.7 inches high and 18.1 inches in diameter. The lamp is in good vintage condition, showing minor signs of wear to the leather and brass surfaces consistent with age.
