Information

This is a rare pair of height-adjustable floor lamps, model 15230, designed by Harald Notini and produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in Sweden during the 1940s. The lamps exhibit a refined functionalist approach with carefully resolved proportions and articulate detailing, characteristic of the transitional period between Swedish Grace and early Scandinavian modernism.

The construction is entirely in brass with a warm, aged patina that accentuates the minimalist geometry of the design. Each lamp consists of a circular brass base supporting a slender telescopic shaft, which allows for adjustable height. The adjustment mechanism is housed discreetly within the central tube, enabling smooth transitions between heights. The arm of the lamp is bent at a right angle and terminated with a spherical joint that allows rotation and angling of the light head, facilitating directional lighting.

The lamps are fitted with new hand-pleated shades in off-white fabric, conical in form, echoing traditional Nordic lighting while contributing to a soft diffusion of light. When lit, the pleated structure of the shade casts a radial play of shadows that emphasizes the sculptural nature of the lamp.

Harald Notini was a leading Swedish designer active in the early to mid-20th century. His work is known for its artisanal quality and emphasis on form, balance, and noble materials. He collaborated extensively with Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik, one of Sweden’s oldest and most prestigious lighting manufacturers. Founded in the late 19th century, Böhlmarks played a central role in shaping the development of Swedish electric lighting design and technology.

Dimensions: Height adjustable from 113 to 169 cm (44.5 to 66.5 inches). Width at the shade approximately 50.5 cm (19.9 inches). Depth from upright to shade tip approximately 90 cm (35.4 inches).
