Information

This rare mid-century table lamp was designed by Swedish lighting designer Harald Notini and produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik, one of the leading Swedish manufacturers of electric lighting in the 20th century. The lamp showcases a distinctive blend of materials, combining metal, leather, and lacquered finishes in a refined and balanced composition.

The lamp features a wide, dome-shaped shade finished in a dark green lacquer with a warm golden interior, which casts a soft, amber glow when illuminated. The underside of the shade and the dual-socket configuration provide even, ambient light, making it both functional and visually striking. The central column is wrapped in richly toned brown leather, spiraled with a gilded brass wire that adds a tactile and decorative quality to the form. The base and structural elements are crafted from patinated brass, introducing both warmth and a sense of aged elegance to the overall design.

Harald Notini (1900–1990) was a prominent Swedish lighting designer known for his work with Böhlmarks and other Scandinavian manufacturers. His designs typically emphasized clarity of form, high-quality materials, and functionalism, aligning with the ethos of Swedish modernism. At Böhlmarks, he contributed to the modernization of electric lighting and helped define the firm’s aesthetic during the mid-century era.

Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik, founded in the 1870s and operating prominently throughout the 20th century, was instrumental in the transition from gas to electric lighting in Sweden. Their lamps are recognized for their technical innovation and craftsmanship, often executed in brass with elegant proportions and practical design considerations.

This lamp is in good vintage condition, with signs of age including surface patina to the brass and light wear to the lacquer and leather. These characteristics are consistent with the age and use of the piece and add authenticity to its historical value.

The dimensions of the lamp are 40 cm in diameter and 52 cm in height (approximately 15.7 x 20.5 inches).
