Information

This rare pair of table lamps was designed by Harald Notini and produced by Böhlmarks in Sweden during the 1950s. The lamps feature a combination of brass and white lacquered metal, embodying the refined simplicity and functional elegance typical of mid-century Scandinavian design.

Each lamp is equipped with a cylindrical white lacquered metal shade that tapers slightly at the end, allowing for controlled and focused light direction. The shades are mounted on gently curved brass arms attached to circular brass bases. Over time, the brass has developed a natural patina, enriching the material’s depth and character. An adjustable joint at each shade allows the angle of illumination to be modified for task or ambient lighting needs.

Harald Notini (1879–1959), a German-Swedish designer, was renowned for his versatile contributions to lighting and furniture design. Serving as head designer at Böhlmarks, Notini played a pivotal role in shaping Scandinavian modernist lighting. His work consistently emphasized clean lines, quality materials, and practical functionality.

Böhlmarks, founded in the late 19th century, gained a reputation for producing high-end lighting and collaborating with prominent designers of the mid-century period. The company’s commitment to craftsmanship and durable materials has made its pieces highly collectible today.

These lamps exemplify mid-century Scandinavian design principles, blending practicality with understated elegance. The brass and lacquered metal construction ensures both durability and visual warmth. Their compact size makes them ideal for use as desk or bedside lamps.

The lamps remain in good vintage condition, showing minor wear on the lacquered surfaces and a pleasing patina on the brass components. They measure 9.5 cm in width, 22 cm in depth, and 39 cm in height (3.7 x 8.7 x 15.4 inches).
