Headboard
This rare mid-century modern headboard, likely produced in Denmark during the 1960s by an unknown designer, reflects the Scandinavian functionalist aesthetic of the period. The structure features a large back panel clad in black artificial leather, providing a subtle yet structured backdrop for two integrated bedside storage units.
The bedside units are crafted from teak, exhibiting warm reddish-brown tones with gentle grain variations. Each unit consists of a cubical open shelf with smoothly rounded corners and a lower drawer, thoughtfully integrated into the overall design with careful attention to proportion and visual balance. The lower sections of the units are accented with black laminated or lacquered panels, visually connecting them to the black leather backdrop and creating a clean horizontal emphasis.
The drawers operate with a push-to-open mechanism, revealing interiors that reflect the quality craftsmanship typical of Scandinavian cabinetmaking of the era. The piece is in very good vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with careful preservation.
Measuring 220 cm in full width (approximately 86.6 inches), the inset section with the two bedside modules is 150 cm wide (59 inches). The depth is 31 cm (12.2 inches) and the height is 50 cm (19.7 inches). This headboard would have functioned as a unifying element in a bedroom, combining minimalist style with practical storage and refined craftsmanship typical of Danish modernism.
