Hermann Bongaard side table
This very rare side table was designed by Hermann Bongaard and produced by Plus in Norway during the 1960s. It exemplifies Scandinavian mid-century modern design through its thoughtful combination of materials—chromed steel, teak, and enamel—that together create a visually striking yet balanced composition. The tabletop is distinguished by its slightly concave form, skillfully constructed with dovetail joints at each corner to enhance both structural integrity and design detail. The surface features a bold geometric enamel pattern rendered in vibrant red and orange hues, which contrasts vividly against the warmth of the teak frame and the sleekness of the tubular chromed steel legs.
The overall aesthetic embodies the mid-century emphasis on craftsmanship, clean lines, and the integration of functional form with artistic expression. The chromed steel legs contribute to a minimalist, lightweight appearance, while the enamel tabletop adds a colorful focal point with a glossy finish that exemplifies durable quality.
The table remains in very good condition, exhibiting minor age-appropriate patina on the metal legs and subtle wear along the wooden edges, consistent with careful use over time. The enamel surface is well preserved, maintaining its original sheen and vivid coloration.
