Ib Madsen & Acton Schubell easy chair

This rare easy chair was designed in the 1950s by the Danish duo Ib Madsen and Acton Schubell and produced by their own workshop, Madsen & Schubell, in Denmark. The chair exemplifies the organic fluidity and tactile material richness of Scandinavian mid-century design. With its harmonious balance between expressive form and ergonomic consideration, this model stands as a distinctive interpretation of the Danish modern easy chair.

The frame is constructed from stained beech, showcasing elegant curves and subtly tapered legs. The upholstery has been newly redone in high-quality natural sheepskin, offering a soft and inviting surface. The sheepskin is in a light beige tone and is complemented by leather-covered buttons subtly recessed into the backrest, contributing to the tactile quality and sculptural softness of the chair. Ib Madsen and Acton Schubell were known for their collaboration in the 1950s and 1960s, creating furniture that explored sculptural silhouettes without sacrificing usability. This example remains in excellent condition. The stained beech frame is structurally sound and free from visible damage. The sheepskin is recently upholstered, clean, and uniform in tone and texture, with no signs of wear.

The chair measures 68 cm in width (26.8 inches), 82 cm in depth (32.3 inches), and 94 cm in height (37 inches), with a seat height of 45 cm (17.7 inches).
