Ib Madsen & Acton Schubell easy chairs
This is a rare pair of Scandinavian mid-century easy chairs, comprising one wingback easy chair and one standard easy chair, accompanied by a matching stool. Designed by Ib Madsen and Acton Schubell and produced by Madsen & Schubell in Denmark during the 1950s, the set is crafted from teak with its original green fabric upholstery.
The wingback model features a tall, sculptural backrest with pronounced wings, providing both visual presence and enveloping comfort, complete with an integrated headrest cushion suspended by a cord. The standard chair echoes the same fluid, organic lines with a lower backrest, creating a harmonious pairing. Both chairs display gently curved teak armrests, seamlessly integrated into the frame, which exhibit the characteristic craftsmanship and material quality of Danish modern design. The seats and backs are generously padded and upholstered in textured green fabric, with button tufting adding subtle detail.
The matching stool shares the same construction language and proportions, offering versatility as a footrest or occasional seat. All pieces are in good vintage condition, showing signs of age and patina consistent with use, which contribute to their authentic character.
