Ico Parisi easy chair
This rare easy chair with matching stool was designed by Ico Parisi and produced by Bonacina in Italy in 1956. The construction combines a natural rattan frame with woven cane details and a leather seat insert, showcasing Parisi’s exploration of organic forms and artisanal craftsmanship within mid-century modernism.
The color scheme features the warm, golden tones of the rattan and cane contrasted by the rich, deep brown of the aged leather seating surfaces. The materials have developed a soft, natural patina over time, with subtle tonal variations enhancing the authenticity and visual depth of the pieces.
The form is distinctly sculptural and fluid. The chair has a circular base with an open-weave structure, above which the rattan loops upward in a series of dynamic curves to form the seat and supportive backrest. The stool mirrors the circular, basket-like base design of the chair, maintaining visual coherence between the two elements. Both pieces exhibit a lightness and airiness achieved through the open-weave construction, while the leather seats provide comfort and a visual center of gravity.
The condition of both the chair and stool is very good, with signs of use consistent with age. The rattan and cane structures are well preserved with minimal wear, and the leather shows natural aging without compromising its durability.
Ico Parisi was a leading figure of Italian mid-century design, known for his multidisciplinary approach and his collaborations with some of Italy’s foremost furniture manufacturers. His work often bridged architecture, design, and craft, resulting in objects that were both experimental and highly functional. Bonacina, a renowned Italian firm specializing in rattan and cane furniture, was an ideal partner for Parisi’s organic and expressive design vision.
The dimensions of the stool are 80 cm in diameter and 35 cm in height, corresponding approximately to 31.5 inches in diameter and 13.78 inches in height. The chair measures 80 cm in width, 83 cm in depth, 72 cm in height, with a seat height of 34 cm, corresponding approximately to 31.5 inches wide, 32.68 inches deep, 28.35 inches high, and 13.39 inches seat height.
