Ivar Ålenius Björk mirror
This rare Art Deco mirror was designed by Ivar Ålenius Björk and produced by Ystad Metall in Sweden during the 1930s. The piece exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and sculptural precision characteristic of Swedish metalwork from this period, balancing decorative expression with functional clarity.
The mirror features a circular reflective surface framed in solid brass with a gently patinated finish. Its handle extends from the frame in three elegant, tapering brass ribs that converge in a flared form—an architectural gesture that combines strength with lightness. The design is both ornamental and utilitarian, capturing the essence of Scandinavian Art Deco with its geometric balance and understated luxury.
Ivar Ålenius Björk (1905–1978) is best known for his collaborations with Ystad Metall, where he created a range of objects in brass and bronze—candleholders, mirrors, and other interior accessories—marked by a timeless modernity. His designs often bridged the classical proportions of the 1930s with the restrained minimalism that would come to define mid-century Scandinavian aesthetics.
This example remains in good vintage condition, with small signs of age and use that contribute to its authentic patina.
