Kaare Klint chair
This chair, designed by Kaare Klint, is known as “The Red Chair”. It features a frame crafted from Cuban mahogany, exhibiting a rich reddish-brown hue with fine grain and subtle natural figuring. The frame is constructed with Klint’s characteristic precision, incorporating gently curved back legs and a profiled stretcher system that enhances both stability and aesthetic balance.
The seat and backrest are upholstered in the original Niger leather, displaying a deep, warm patina acquired through age and use. The leather shows a natural variation of tones, from medium to dark brown, with pronounced aging marks that add to its historic character. The edges of the upholstery are finished with brass nail trim, arranged in a neat linear pattern that highlights the chair’s tailored craftsmanship.
This chair, model 4751, was designed in 1927 and executed by Rud. Rasmussen Cabinetmakers in Copenhagen, as indicated by the original maker’s label still present under the seat. The version presented here is the largest in the series, measuring 58.5 cm in width, 55 cm in depth, 89 cm in height, with a seat height of 45 cm.
Overall, the chair is in excellent condition, with consistent signs of use in the leather that contribute to its authentic vintage appeal. The mahogany frame shows only minor wear appropriate to its age, retaining a well-preserved finish.
