Information

A rare and complete set of eight dining chairs, model no. 3949, designed by Kaare Klint in 1928 and produced by the renowned Copenhagen cabinetmaker Rud. Rasmussen. The model reflects Klint’s foundational approach to Danish modern design, where proportion, ergonomics, and craftsmanship are distilled into a restrained and highly functional form.

The chairs are executed in solid mahogany, displaying a warm, reddish-brown tone with a fine, even grain that enhances the clarity of the construction. The frames are defined by clean, rectilinear lines with subtly tapered legs and carefully balanced stretchers, providing both structural stability and visual lightness. The backrests are slightly curved, offering ergonomic support while maintaining a strict geometric expression characteristic of Klint’s work.

The seats and backs have been recently upholstered in a deep green horsehair textile by Studio Schalling, a material chosen for its durability, texture, and historical relevance in high-quality Scandinavian furniture. The upholstery is finished with refined leather piping, adding a discreet contrast and emphasizing the precise edges of the form. The combination of mahogany and green textile creates a sophisticated and timeless palette.

Each chair retains the original manufacturer’s paper label from Rud. Rasmussen, confirming authenticity and origin. The set presents in good vintage condition with minor signs of use consistent with age, while the recent upholstery ensures excellent seating comfort and longevity.

Dimensions: height 85 cm (33.5 in), width 48 cm (18.9 in), depth 49 cm (19.3 in), seat height 44 cm (17.3 in).
