Kai Kristiansen nesting table
This is a set of rare nesting tables designed by Danish furniture designer Kai Kristiansen and produced by Skovmand & Andersen in Denmark during the 1960s. Executed in richly grained rosewood, the tables are an excellent example of refined Scandinavian modernism, with clean lines and an emphasis on craftsmanship and quality materials.
Each table in the set features a rectangular top with gently rounded edges and a subtly raised lip, providing a sense of definition and elegance. The tabletops are veneered in rosewood with book-matched grain patterns that highlight the wood’s natural depth and variation in color, ranging from deep reddish-browns to chocolate and almost black striations.
The slender, tapering legs are turned from solid wood and are splayed slightly outward to create a graceful stance. The aprons connecting the legs are angular but softened with curved stretchers, adding both stability and sculptural interest to the construction. The tables nest perfectly, sliding beneath one another with ease and maintaining a coherent silhouette when stored together.
The set remains in good vintage condition, having undergone a professional restoration to revive the finish while retaining the characterful patina of use. Some minor signs of age and wear may remain, consistent with careful use and respectful handling over the decades.
Dimensions of the largest table are 58 cm in width, 39.5 cm in depth, and 47.5 cm in height (22.8 × 15.5 × 18.7 inches).
