Kai Kristiansen side tables
This set of three side tables was designed by Kai Kristiansen and produced by Aksel Kjersgaard in Denmark during the 1960s. Each table features a geometric rosewood frame, showcasing clean lines and exceptional craftsmanship. The wood exhibits a deep, rich grain typical of high-quality Brazilian rosewood, a favored material in Danish modern furniture for its durability and visual warmth.
The set includes three distinct variations, each serving a different function. One table incorporates an inset zinc liner, suitable for use as a planter or storage compartment. Another features a suspended suede magazine holder, offering practical storage while adding a tactile contrast to the wooden frame. The third table presents a solid rosewood top, providing a versatile surface for everyday use. All three maintain a consistent structural framework, embodying the modular and functionalist design principles central to Scandinavian modernism.
Kai Kristiansen was celebrated for his innovative furniture designs that seamlessly balanced form and function with refined aesthetics. His collaboration with Aksel Kjersgaard produced pieces recognized for meticulous joinery and minimalistic elegance. Aksel Kjersgaard was a prominent Danish manufacturer known for high-quality woodwork, particularly in rosewood and teak, contributing significantly to mid-century Danish design.
The set is in well-preserved vintage condition, exhibiting minor wear consistent with age. Each table measures 44.5 centimeters in width, depth, and height (17.5 x 17.5 x 17.5 inches).
