Lisa Johansson-Pape ceiling lamp
This ceiling lamp is constructed in brass, painted metal, glass, and a molded plastic diffuser, and was designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape for Stockmann-Orno in Finland during the 1960s. The upper shade is formed from light blue lacquered metal with a regular pattern of small embossed crosses distributed across the surface. This creates a textured appearance and allows controlled light spill when the lamp is illuminated. The lower diffuser is shaped in white plastic with a smooth, concave form that distributes the light evenly downward. A secondary glass diffuser sits above the main body of the lamp, assisting in upward light distribution and concealing the internal fittings.
The lamp is suspended from a straight brass rod with a brass ceiling cup, all retaining an aged patina that reflects typical oxidation of the period. The combination of lacquered metal and warm brass contributes to the balanced palette often seen in Johansson-Pape’s work. Her designs were characterized by functional forms and careful attention to light quality, and Stockmann-Orno was the principal Finnish manufacturer responsible for producing her most important lighting collections. This model demonstrates her interest in broad, low silhouettes and diffused surfaces that create gentle, atmospheric illumination.
The proportions of the lamp—75 cm in diameter and 105 cm in full height, equivalent to approximately 29.5 inches and 41.3 inches—give it a substantial presence suitable for larger spaces, while the soft color and shallow form maintain a light visual impression. The condition is excellent with minor signs of age and use consistent with careful handling over time.
