Information

These ceiling lamps was designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape and produced by Stockmann-Orno in Finland during the 1950s. Johansson-Pape, a prominent Finnish lighting designer, was known for her functionalist approach and extensive collaborations with Orno, creating lighting suited for both private and public environments. Her designs typically prioritize glare-free illumination and a harmonious balance of form and function.

The lamp is constructed from lacquered metal and glass, featuring a geometric stepped concentric ring structure. The outermost element is a cylindrical horizontal band in light grey lacquered metal, enclosing a series of stacked white-painted metal louvres arranged in a tapered spiral that descends toward the center. This layering efficiently diffuses and directs light, minimizing glare and producing a soft, ambient glow. The light source is concealed within, while the perforated upper socket housing provides ventilation.

Topping the fixture is a domed metal shade in white lacquer, which visually and functionally anchors the lamp. It is suspended from a central rod finished in matching white, connected to a simple cylindrical ceiling cup.

This design exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian ideals of refined utility and visual clarity, balancing sculptural presence with effective light diffusion. It reflects Johansson-Pape’s focus on human-centered lighting, informed by her experience with institutional commissions such as churches and hospitals.

The lamps are in good condition with minor wear consistent with age, including some superficial scratches and light patina on the metal surfaces.

The dimensions are 55 cm in diameter and 80 cm in total height including suspension, approximately 21.7 inches wide and 31.5 inches tall.
