Information

This abstract anthropomorphic sculpture was designed by Swedish artist Margareta Ryndel and produced in Sweden during the 1960s. Part of a limited edition of 20 castings, the piece is inscribed on the base with “MR 66 15/20” indicating the artist’s initials, the year of execution, and the edition number.

The figure is rendered in a stylized, geometric manner characterized by an exaggerated circular torso and an asymmetrical head, evoking a totemic presence. The sculpture exhibits a strong vertical emphasis and rests on a rectangular base. The patinated bronze surface varies in color from deep brown to greenish hues, accentuating the sculptural textures and casting details.

Only one sculpture from this pair remains available, the other having been sold. The work embodies Scandinavian mid-century modernist influences infused with a Brutalist sensibility, focusing on form and abstract reduction while drawing on organic inspiration. The cast bronze shows visible signs of age and oxidation consistent with its material and period.

Dimensions measure 8.5 cm in width, 4.5 cm in depth, and 36.5 cm in height, approximately 3.3 x 1.8 x 14.4 inches.
