Mats Theselius easy chair

Rare easy chair model El Dorado designed by Mats Theselius and produced by Källemo in Sweden in 2002. This sculptural and highly recognizable armchair exemplifies Theselius’ distinctive approach to furniture design, where industrial construction techniques meet luxurious natural materials and artisanal craftsmanship. Produced in a strictly limited edition of 360 examples, this chair is numbered 64 and retains its original manufacturer’s plaque.

The chair features a cylindrical body clad in alternating horizontal brass panels with a richly developed surface patina showing iridescent tones of bronze, blue, violet and gold. The exterior construction is reinforced by visible vertical brass straps and exposed fasteners, emphasizing the industrial aesthetic that became central to Theselius’ celebrated furniture designs during the late 20th and early 21st century. The rounded form creates an enveloping seating experience while simultaneously giving the chair a strong architectural presence.

The interior is upholstered in light natural leather with softly curved back and side supports surrounding a generous circular seat cushion. The warm leather tones contrast elegantly against the oxidized brass exterior. Distinctive arm details in finely figured masur birch add a tactile and organic element to the otherwise metallic construction. Raised on slender brass legs, the chair appears visually light despite its robust and substantial construction.

Mats Theselius is regarded as one of Sweden’s most important contemporary furniture designers, known for combining unconventional materials with limited production methods that blur the line between collectible design and functional art. The El Dorado model is among his most iconic and sought-after works produced in collaboration with Källemo.

Good vintage condition with small signs of usage and wear consistent with age. The brass has developed a varied natural patina and the leather shows light marks and minor wear.
