Melchior Wernstedt table lamp

This rare table lamp, model 25760, designed by Melchior Wernstedt and produced in 1922 by Nordiska Kompaniet in Sweden, is a distinguished example of the Swedish Grace period—a stylistic movement that emerged in the early 20th century, blending classical restraint with modern sensibilities. The lamp exemplifies this aesthetic through its harmonious proportions, subtle ornamentation, and a refined interplay of color and material.

The design is anchored by a cylindrical stem made of black lacquered metal, which rises vertically from a round base. The base itself has a softly curved profile, offering visual weight and stability while echoing neoclassical forms in its simplicity. Brass accents are strategically applied at key junctions—at the base, stem, and finial—introducing warmth and decorative contrast to the otherwise dark structure. The shade is formed from dark green painted metal, shaped into a slightly flared conical profile.
